Find the distance between the points (3,4) and (-5,-2).

Solution: The distance between the given points is

= √ [(x1 - x2) 2 + (y1 - y2)] 2

Therefore, the distance between the given points is

= √ ([(3) - (-5)] 2 + [(4 - (-2)] 2 )

= √ (3 + 5)2 + (4 + 2)2 = √ (82 + 62)

= √ (64 + 36) = √100 = 10
