If the expression x³ + 3x² + 4x + p = 0 has (x + 6) as a factor, find p.

Solution: As (x + 6) is its factor, so f( -6) = 0,

i.e. ( -6)³ + 3( -6)² + 4( -6) + p = 0

=> - 216 + 108 – 24 + p = 0

=> p = 132
