The angle of elevation of the top of a tower at a distance of 150 meters from its foot on a horizontal
plane is found to be 300. Find the height of the tower correct to one place of decimal.

Solution: Let TM represents the tower of height h meters. Then

OM = 150 m

h / 150 = tan 300

Therefore, h = 150 X tan 300 = 150 X 1/√3 = 150/√3 X √3/√3 = 150√3/3

= 50√3 = 50 X 1.732 = 86.6 m.
