Problem: A woman bought a Jacket for $ 2464. On coming home she realized that
the Jacket was shorter by 1/2 m than the required length. She was cheated by Rs. 224
on account of this loss. What was the actual length of the Jacket purchased?

Solution: The woman incurs a loss o $ 224 because of 1/2 m decrease of length of

the Jacket, i.e., 1/2 m of the Jacket costs $ 224.

For $ 2464 she should have got 2464/ (224 X 2) meters

i.e., 2464/ (224 X 2) = 11/2 meters = 5 1/2 meters

But she has 1/2 meters less

Hence, the length of the Jacket purchased is only 5 meters.
